Located in historic grant Park, Zoo Atlanta is one of Atlanta’s most loved institutions. Founded in 1889, it is one of the ten oldest zoos in the US to remain in continuous operation in the United States. Zoo Atlanta maintains a collection of over 800 specimens representing over 200 species of animals from all over the world.
The animals come from such diverse locations as the African plains all the way to the Asian forests. Zoo Atlanta is an acknowledged leader in building naturalistic habitats for the animals. The Zoo’s landscape spans nearly 40 acres with settings of lush greenery and forests. Unusual animals include the Bornean Sumatran orangutans, Asian small-clawed otters and Sumatran tigers. The Ford African Rain Forest houses one of the largest captive gorilla populations in North America with a total of 23 gorillas. Zoo Atlanta's most popular exhibit are the Giant Pandas - Lun Lun and Yang Yang. They are the proud parents of baby Mei Lan (Atlanta Beauty) whose every minute of her young life has caused a commotion around the world. Animal keeper talks, training demonstrations, fun shows, animal encounters and more! There's always something fun to do during your visit to the Zoo! |
